Election day in Abuja among fogmonite was like a political fanfare. Monday the 16th of May 2016 was such an unforgettable night. The arrival period was a time to see shades of dressing . With some adorning Agbadas, etibos, Don, jeans, casuals and others in wrapper. It was a moment similar to what we see in the bigger political environment out there just that this one had the trappings of a spiritual assemblage and highly Godly atmosphere.
The fogmmon band Serenaded the air with jazzy gospel tunes and later praise and worship.
The co-ordinator representing the Electoral committee kickstarted the event with an opening prayer led by pastor TJ. When this elapsed, the actual introduction of the day was personaly delivered by Dr Paul Iluikpe PHD. HE introduced E speed, a major constant in the musical profile of the fellowship to render a song in commemoration of his birthday. In the process of doing that, the chairman of the Electoral commission, pastor Kingsley Ike walked in. Then the meeting assumed a more serious dimension. Pastor Kingsley Ike who also ranks as a member of the Board of Trustees of fogmmon was introduced to give the house a charge in an item leading up to the proper take off. He led the house in a strong intense worship before admonishing the house to see power as a gift from God. His words "It is God that Exhalts". He admonished eventual winners to be humble in victory while asking losers to be gracious in accepting defeat. He recounted his experience in jos Plateau state where he attended a programme hosted by Obed Akanya and was shocked that the name fogmmon reechoed through out the event. He wondered how this spread was possible in such a short time if not for committed leaders blessed by God. He commended the outgoing Exco for a job well done and also prayed and dissolved the outgoing Exco immediately.
Thereafter, he set the stage for the manifesto segment while the announcement of the election collation officers of Jim and Fred Williams was made.
fourteen offices were contested for. Each contestant was also called upon to deliver a manifesto. It was quite an exciting stage at this moment. The hall roared in excitement of the beautiful speeches and the convivial atmosphere of contest.
voting started at about 7pm. It was concluded early enough for collation. During collation, a song bird from Lagos Hef-zibah, the guitar girl invaded the air with soulful renditions. Her performance was so heart warming and her delivery was greeted with thunderous ovation.
Then it came to the moment of the announcement of results. This was the height of the night. Some new faces filled spaces in d exco. But key among the returning faces were the National President Asu Ekiye and National Vice President Samsong who were voted unopposed. It was indeed a memorable night.
